In short

Want to quickly check whether ChatGPT recommends your brand? Ask the model purchase questions from your category and see whether your company name appears in the answers. Note whether you are mentioned, who appears alongside you and which sources AI draws its knowledge from – that is the basis for further action.

How do you check whether ChatGPT recommends your brand?

The simplest way is a repeatable test you can run yourself. In it you do not assess position in the answer, only whether your brand was mentioned at all and in what context. The test looks like this:

  1. Prepare a list of natural questions that real customers would type into AI before buying or choosing a vendor – comparison, problem and recommendation questions.
  2. Ask each question in ChatGPT in several wordings, the way different people might phrase it.
  3. For each answer, check whether the brand is mentioned, who appears alongside it and which sources AI draws its information from, if it shows them.
  4. Record the results in a simple spreadsheet: question, mention or lack of one, brands alongside, cited sources and a short comment on what to improve.
  5. Repeat the test regularly to notice changes in context, neighbors and sources.
  6. If you want a broader picture, ask the same questions in other popular conversational engines too.

In conversations with AI, what counts is the brand's presence in the answer – we do not analyze position or order, only the fact of the mention and its context.

To make the result reliable, start every session with a clean conversation, with no prior context, and phrase questions neutrally, without hinting at the company name. Also test industry and local variants and the wording customers use at the consideration stage. That way you will see the brand's natural visibility, not the effect of suggestion.

Why does AI visibility matter?

Visibility in AI answers means the brand appears naturally where the user is making a decision. When the company name is mentioned together with other players in the category, you have a chance to be considered at exactly the moment someone is looking for a solution.

According to a 2025 Ahrefs study covering 75,000 brands, brand mentions across the web correlate with visibility in Google AI Overviews about three times more strongly than backlinks. That is a practical hint to work on where and how often the brand is mentioned, and not only on the traditional link profile.

Visibility is also a valuable signal for marketing and sales. When you know which questions you are mentioned for and alongside whom, you plan content, PR and partnership work better. When you know the sources cited by AI, you can add to and strengthen the information about your offer in those places. Over time you will also see which topics create real consideration paths and for which sets of brands your name appears most often.

What tools can help with monitoring visibility?

A manual test is a good start, but in the long run you need order first, and then automation.

The simplest form is monitoring on your own. You record the results in one spreadsheet, keep a fixed set of questions and compare answers regularly, so you have full control over the scope and frequency of tests. Add a column in the spreadsheet for screenshots or links to permanent records of conversations – that makes it easier to go back to the results and improve the source content.

When the number of questions and engines grows, Attent helps – a monitoring tool for brand visibility in AI answers, a product of Green Parrot sp. z o.o. of Warsaw, an agency with a team of over 100 specialists. Every week the platform asks your customers' questions in four engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI. It shows whether the brand was mentioned, whom AI recommends alongside it, which sources AI draws its knowledge from and what is worth changing. In it you get a brand AI visibility score, share of voice against competitors, blind spots, sources cited by AI, alerts about changes, a board report in PDF, a content generator and a Google Search Console integration.

The platform has analyzed millions of AI answers, and 78 companies use it. To get started all you need is a domain, a brand name and a list of competitors. Plans cost: Starter $100, Growth $225, Agency $560, Enterprise from $1,525; Starter and Growth come with no fixed-term contract. You can book a call about monitoring at getattent.com.

How do you interpret test results?

The mere presence or absence of a mention is only the first signal. Practical conclusions come only from results analyzed along several dimensions.

Start with the consistency of answers. If for similar questions you are mentioned one time and not the next, the information about the brand in the sources AI draws on is inconsistent, and the content does not match typical user intent – that is the first thing to fix. Then look at the neighbors: the list of companies mentioned alongside you shows who you really compete with in conversations with AI, and so how broadly to plan comparisons and which criteria to reinforce in your offer descriptions.

The sources cited by AI, in turn, give you a map of priorities. If the model points to publications or sites it uses, that is exactly where to add data, update descriptions and fill in missing context. Blind spots, that is, questions where AI mentions competitors and skips your brand, are a ready list of topics to strengthen – treat them like a backlog of communication and PR work. Finally, watch the trend: tests repeated at regular intervals will show improvement or declines, and a steady increase in mentions across the same sets of questions shows that your efforts are working.

Consistent naming helps too. Check whether the model correctly recognizes your trade name and your legal name, whether it confuses the brand with similar-sounding entities and whether it duplicates mentions because of different spellings. Consistent descriptions of your offer in the places AI likes to cite reduce mismatches in context.

It is most convenient to interpret results in question–answer pairs. In each pair you look for answers to three issues: whether the brand is mentioned, in what neighborhood and which sources AI relies on. Such a filter organizes decisions and makes it easier to set priorities.

How do you improve brand visibility in AI answers?

Improving visibility combines two tracks: working on brand mentions and filling in information in the places models read.

The first track follows directly from the 2025 Ahrefs study: since brand mentions across the web correlate with visibility in Google AI Overviews about three times more strongly than backlinks, make sure the company name appears in credible, substantive contexts. The blind spots from your tests show where to start – places where AI mentions others and not you are the priority for external publications, interviews, expert materials and partnership work.

The second track is content and sources. The list of questions from your tests is a ready publishing plan: prepare explanations, comparisons and guides so that a model can use them in answers. If AI cites specific sites or publications, make sure they contain precise, up-to-date descriptions of your offer and advantages. A consistent name, service description and scope of activity across all profiles and business listings further reduce the risk of model errors.

Both tracks require regular measurement, because without it it is hard to judge effectiveness. When you need constant insight into mentions, neighbors and sources, reach for an AI visibility monitoring tool that automates the questions, reports blind spots and shows share of voice.

Monitoring brand visibility in AI is a process, not a one-off audit. Start with a fixed list of customer questions and check whether your brand is mentioned, alongside whom and which sources the model relies on. Prioritize blind spots and regularly feed the cited sources with content that helps AI understand your offer better.
